In “Consistent Creative Content: A Guide to Authoring and Blogging in the Social Media Age”, author Lee Hall offers pragmatic tips and valuable strategies for publishing a book and blogging. His advice remains timely and effective even though the book is a few years old, as I discovered the guide through his X-Account (formerly Twitter).

Lee’s writing is concise and straightforward. His conversational writing style makes the book engaging and easy to read. He cuts through the fluff to deliver practical advice and shares his successes and failures with honesty and humility.

Beyond emphasizing the importance of consistency in writing and marketing, Lee highlights several key lessons that all writers should remember.

  • First, every author/blogger starts from zero. He notes, “I’ve always measured my results beside the number from where I started—absolute zero. And compared to zero, my numbers today appear to be quite impressive.”
  • Moreover, success, no matter how you defined it, is not a guarantee. Thus, he encourages his readers to focus on personal growth rather than external comparisons. Lee states, “Success is in the eye of the beholder, and when it comes to writing and blogging, you are only competing against yourself.”
  • The third lesson is to embrace failure and learn from it. He writes, “Some call low numbers failure, but to me, there are no failures in life, just lessons and opportunities. Both go hand in hand when it comes to writing.”
  • The fourth lesson is that writing is a process, not a coincidence. Lee emphasizes, “The most important thing in writing is to start.”

One problem with “Consistent Creative Content” is that Lee covers a too wide range of topics, which sometimes makes the book feel unfocused. It might have been better if he had split the content into separate books—one focusing on the craft of authoring and blogging, and another on marketing strategies and growing a social media following. This separation could have provided a clearer, more structured approach to each aspect of writing and marketing.

Another minor issue is that the book repeats itself in several sections. While repetition can be useful for emphasizing key points, there is a fine line between reinforcing a message and becoming redundant. At times, Lee crosses this line, making some parts feel overly repetitive and somewhat tedious.

Despite these issues, Lee Hall’s “Consistent Creative Content: A Guide to Authoring and Blogging in the Social Media Age” is an excellent resource for anyone looking to navigate the complex world of writing and marketing in the digital age.

I recommend it, especially for beginners who feel overwhelmed by the various tasks of publishing and book marketing. This guide will save you countless hours of research by providing a solid foundation in these areas. Even advanced authors and bloggers can find valuable insights.
