As Luminael Morningstar and Crowley settle in Las Vegas, a diabolical plot shatters their peace.

Behind the scenes: The origin of Eclipse of Avarice

Eclipse of Avarice wasn’t the original title of the dark urban fantasy. Like the concept of “The Prince of Hellscape Series”, the title has evolved.

When I plotted the series, the original working title for Book One was A Shattered Dawn. The inspiration came from the symbolism of Lucifer, also known as the Lightbringer, and his son Luminael, the main character. Luminael’s name, meaning “dawn” in his daemonic language, directly connects to his father's legacy of light.

Moreover, a “dawn” also symbolizes a new beginning, which is a key theme in this dark urban fantasy series. That’s why I titled the prequel Dawning in Sin City. The short story marks the start of Luminael and Crowley’s new life on Earth. However, in the first novel, just as Luminael and Crowley settle in Las Vegas, a diabolical plot shatters their peace. Hence, A Shattered Dawn would have captured the concept of a new beginning and the imminent downfall in the story.

Unfortunately, many other novels already bear the same title. After much contemplation, I settled on something unique. Eclipse of Avarice resonates with the dark, suspenseful tone of the series and reflects its themes.

What does ‘Eclipse of Avarice’ mean?

The “eclipse” emphasizes the story’s focus on light and dark—good vs. evil. During a solar eclipse, the Moon casts a shadow onto Earth. Temporarily, the sky will become dark, as if it were dawn or dusk. Luminael’s attempt to start anew on Earth is both literally and metaphorically overshadowed by darkness.

The second half of the title, “Avarice”, refers to the seven deadly sins. In the novel, Greed isn’t just a theme. It’s not only a core characteristic of all daemons, but an actual force within the Otherworld. In the book, greed and avarice cast a shadow over Luminael and Crowley’s lives. As their ambitions clash with the corrupt world around them, the duo find themselves thrust into a war against an ancient evil.

Eclipse of Avarice role for the urban fantasy series

Eclipse of Avarice sets the perfect tone for the supernatural suspense thrillers to come. It hints at the cosmic and spiritual battles at play and foreshadows how greed distorts everything in its path. No matter how hard Luminael and Crowley try to break free, something dark and destructive impedes their progress.

The title also gives you a glimpse into the internal struggles my characters will face as they try to outmaneuver forces much larger than themselves.

What's happening in Eclipse of Avarice

The dawn of a new life. A diabolical plot to tear it all apart.
Peace is an illusion—no one knows this better than Luminael Morningstar, the Antichrist. After millennia of struggle in the Otherworld, the Prince of Hellscape and his companion, the daemona Crowley, have found refuge in Las Vegas. But just as they settle into Sin City, a ruthless adversary shatters their fragile peace.

When a sinister serial killer sacrifices people connected to them, Luminael and Crowley are thrust into a nightmare of suspicion and bloodshed. Hunted by both the authorities and vengeful enemies, the daemons must navigate a dangerous web of deceit to clear their names.

With threats closing in from all sides, their survival hangs by a thread. Desperate and outnumbered, the fugitives forge an uneasy alliance with those who would gladly see them dead. But in a war against an ancient evil, trust is a deadly gamble, and betrayal can come from anywhere.

Will Luminael and Crowley survive—or will they fall prey to an enemy driven by insatiable greed? Only those strong enough to endure will witness the dawn of a new tomorrow.
