Arjay Lewis’s “Fire in the Mind” is an enjoyable murder mystery with plausible paranormal elements.

A victim engulfed in flames. A psychic series of clues. Can a PhD with incredible mental powers stop a real-life firestarter?

In Fire in the Mind, the first book in the Doctor Wise, Arjay Lewis’s weaves a web of psychic intrigue. This narrative seamlessly merges the conventions of a paranormal detective tale with the compelling arc of a superhero’s genesis.

Dr. Leonard Wise, haunted by personal tragedy, treads the path of healing as he grapples with his past. At the urging of an old friend, Leonard finds himself in New Jersey, poised to deliver a lecture on “Parapsychology and Evidence Gathering”. However, an anxious local detective entangled in a perplexing case of fire and potential homicide enlists his expertise. Drawn into the enigma, Leonard’s extraordinary psychic abilities unfurl as he embarks on a unique approach to solving the mystery.

Intriguingly human, Leonard remains a relatable protagonist, brimming with imperfections that tether him to reality. His interactions with his newfound talents are imbued with genuine fear and occasional resentment, highlighting his vulnerability. Yet, as the investigation unfurls its secrets, Leonard’s self-assuredness blossoms alongside his extraordinary “gifts”.

A formidable foil to Leonard’s endeavors, the antagonist exudes a sinister narcissism that adds layers of tension to the narrative canvas. The authors crafted the supporting characters with sufficient depth to maintain their appeal.

Admittedly, the narrative takes its time to gather momentum, initially testing the reader’s patience. I, too, experienced a fleeting urge to abandon the tale, but it richly rewarded my perseverance. “Fire in the Mind” gradually unfurls into a mesmerizing murder mystery, intricately laced with credible paranormal elements that skillfully propel the plot.

In summary, I found Fire in the Mind to be an engaging and immersive read. Arjay Lewis has artfully crafted a tale that merges the realms of the paranormal and the mundane, weaving a tapestry of suspense that commands attention.

I rate this enthralling work four stars, a testament to its ability to ultimately captivate and deliver an enjoyable reading experience.

While paranormal abilities like telepathy, telekinesis, and clairvoyance often receive the most attention, empathy still is a mainstay in fiction.

Let’s be honest, being born with special abilities sounds thrilling. Who wouldn’t like to read the minds of others or have visions of the future? Thus, I enjoy watching television shows that feature “gifted” protagonists.
